Joe Nice Heavy Innit

Saturday July 11
The Laundry – 50 Johnston St, Fitzroy

From a city notorious for it’s gun violence and the appropriation of the Lyn Collins’ ‘Think About It’ drum-break, comes Joe Nice – Baltimore’s ardent ambassador of the UK dubstep movement. Radio-DJ and resident at NYC’s Dubwar parties, Joe Nice has been there from the early days pushing the dubstep sound over the North American airwaves. Distinguished by his upfront selection and skillful mixing, he was the first USA-based DJ to play on RinseFM and at world renowned club nights FWD>> and DMZ’s bi-monthly parties in London. Now he is headed for Melbourne.

Appearing for the first time in Australia, Joe Nice is our very special guest at HEAVY INNIT on Saturday July 11 at The Laundry. Expect two levels of maximum bassweight and a strong dose of dirty glitch-hop, promising six hours of serious electronic damage. Joined by a huge local DJ line-up including Affiks & A13, Riz-One, Shikung, Mexi, and Thomas Kilroc; Joe Nice is in great company. Add Melbourne’s own dubstep production duo Editor launching their debut CD downstairs at Midnight and you know this one is set to go off. Limited presales $18+BF from InTheMix.Com.Au or more on the door. Joe Nice IS dubstep. HEAVY INNIT bangs hard

This blog is only seldom concerned with hiphop, but in this case an acception has to be made. Would have thought he'd have some kind of criminal record preventing him from coming, but no, it's is official that Ghostface Killah is coming to Australia with Theodore Unit in tow. Tour dates and info here, and here are a couple of videos if you still need convincing.

Musically Mad DVD

Musically Mad UK DVD 2008
MUSICALLY MAD takes you into the hearts and heads of the singers and soundmen, the backbone of the UK roots reggae sound systems. With them they bring the deepest bass and the highest chants, delivered by massive stacks of speakers and custom-built sound equipment. For some, attending a sound system dance is a religious experience, channelled through the music and the message. For others it`s the natural way to connect with the music they love. Either way, sound system culture is growing and changing.

Joker & Ginz - Purple City / Re Up

These riddims are fuuuuucked!! Ginz is new to me but I've been listening to this non stop for about a week now, so I guess that makes me a fan. Apparently that's Tes La Rok on the mic as well, but don't know much else about this.

Old School Session... Roll Deep, Titch, D Double, Dizzee more

Marvell Crew and The Movement exchange bars on Westwood

Everybody involved is in top form as standard, but it's the 3-way thing that Marvell do at 10:40 that made me want to put it up for show. Watch and see, even Ghetts and Wretch can't help but be impressed.

Funny Dizzee interview

Wasteman interviewer... Dizzee is hilarous. "I'll kick your head in!"

Mishka Presents:Keep Watch Vol. 8: Plastician

Giggs and Wiley!!

LOGAN ESCO tribute show

Followers of this blog or grime in general would have seen that over in UK they lost one of the legends, Esco from Slew Dem last week. Logan Sama from KISS100 did a tribute show and it really did him justice. Some classics, some unheard gems. Download it here. RIP ESCO

Marvell crew video..

Marvell is one of the top crews in the game, and they have the work ethic and the small, manageable numbers to really succeed it seems to me. Double S is a beast.
